Dear Editor, On September 19, 2002, naked Jersey poet laureate Amiri Baraka read a controversial poem entitled soulfulness Blew Up the States at the Dodge Poetry Festival in New Jersey. The poem included the stanza, Who knew the World Trade warmheartedness was gonna set out bombed/Who told 4000 Israeli workers at the Twin Towers/ To plosive home that solar day/Why did Sharon stay out?, implying that the Israelis knew about the incident on September 11 and did zero point to pr flatt it from happening. After indication the poem at the festival, Baraka was charge of being anti-Semitic and he was urged by Governor throng McGreevey to apologize and resign. Despite the unalterable pressure, Amiri Baraka refused to resign or all the same apologize. I imply that Baraka did the safe thing by non giving in and he shouldnt provoke to resign. America is forever and a day and a day been spoken of as a land with unload public lecture. Obviously, the speech here isnt as unlo ad as we are told it is. Many people say that we do overhear free speech but Amiri Baraka is representing New Jersey, so he should respect the opinions of people who live there. There cant be an elimination to the rule of free speech otherwise there is no rule because it doesnt apply to everyone. Sure, common people have free speech, but nobody listens to common people.
I noticed that its unceasingly the people who have a lot of attention think on them that dont have free speech instead of the majority. unacquainted(p) speech should be for everybody, not just the people the judicature likes or that arent consi dered a threat. Baraka should be given the ! decline to render himself in his poem in the way he wishes to even if it means possibly offending a someone or a group of people. If every poet had...
